Soehnlen for Fairless

We’re almost to Election Day 2025! Tomorrow, November 4th, is the last day to cast your ballot for the Fairless School District School Board race (and lots of other important issues in Stark and Tuscarawas counties).

Polls will be open from 6:30 am to 7:30 pm. A few things to be aware of:

• If you’re unsure of your polling location, check the Stark County Board of Elections website.
• You’ll need to bring an unexpired photo ID. This part can be confusing, so check here if you have any questions!
• If you are in line at your polling place by 7:30 pm, you are guaranteed the chance to cast your ballot. As long as you’re at your polling place by 7:30, you’ll be able to vote!
• Some of the races on tomorrow’s ballot are for two or three openings- Fairless School Board is one of them. This means that you can vote for up to three people, but you don’t need to fill all three slots if you prefer not to. If you decide to select less than three names, you’ll get a warning message saying “Undervoted”- but you will still be able to cast your ballot.

Today – October 6, 2025 – is the last day to register to vote before our upcoming election! Check out VoteOhio.gov – Ohio Secretary of State or my Voting Information page to register, or to make sure that your registration is accurate!

Starting tomorrow – October 7, 2025 – you can vote early in person or request a mail-in ballot. Links above will also give you details about those processes.

Join me – and other Fairless School Board candidates and Navarre Village Council candidates – this Saturday for Coffee with Council!

This Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Rise Up Cafe in Navarre (92 W Canal St. in Navarre), the Navarre Village Council will host Coffee with Council. Candidates for the Navarre Village Council and Fairless Local School Board are invited to answer questions from the community, and I’d love to see you there! This will be a great chance for you to get to know me and the other candidates for School Board. And, if you live in Navarre, it’s a great way to learn more about your Council and the candidates for those offices too!

My personal philosophy is that every person in Fairless deserves to be a valued member of our community. When we feel secure, seen, and able to contribute, we find the motivation to do our best work. 

As a school board member, I will approach each person with this attitude. Students, parents, teachers, staff, and community members are all vital to making our schools safe, welcoming and productive community centers. I will hold space for everyone to be an important and constructive part of our school system.

If you’ve ever been a part of a sports team or performing arts class, you know how miraculous it is when the whole group is locked in and synced up. Reaching difficult goals somehow feels inevitable when everyone works together and contributes from their skill set. I have experience guiding individuals and groups to reach their potential, and I will call upon that experience as a board member. Everyone deserves a seat at the table here in Fairless, and everyone needs a seat at the table to help us do our best.

Hello! My name is Cathy Soehnlen, and I am running for School Board in Fairless Local School District in Stark and Tuscarawas Counties, Ohio. Let me tell you a little about myself!

I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s of Music Education in 2010. I taught band and choir at Minerva Local Schools from 2010 to 2022.

During that time I met my husband, moved to Fairless, and had our first child. In 2022, I took some time off work to be a stay-at-home-mom. Now that my two children are past the baby stage, I am ready to contribute to our public school community in a new way.

I have always believed that a vibrant public school serves as a vibrant community center, and I am excited to get the opportunity to work with the amazing students and teachers here in Fairless toward that goal. I believe in servant leadership- it’s my job to ensure that the students and adults in our school district feel safe and supported enough to be successful.
